How it unfolded
From charge to resolution
01
The Challenge
What the client was facing
A client facing a stunt driving charge in Ontario had already received a 30 day roadside license suspension and a 14 day vehicle impoundment.
A stunt driving conviction could have resulted in significant financial penalties, six demerit points, and a mandatory license suspension of at least one year.
The client needed professional representation to explore options for reducing the charge and minimizing its long term consequences.
02
Our Approach
How the matter was handled
Mr. Abbadi carefully reviewed the circumstances of the charge and negotiated with the prosecution to pursue a more favorable resolution.
Through these negotiations, the original stunt driving charge was amended to a speeding offense under section 128 of Ontario's Highway Traffic Act.
The resolution also included the completion of a defensive driving course as a remedial measure.
03
The Outcome
How it was resolved
The stunt driving charge was reduced to a speeding offense, resulting in:
- A reduction from six demerit points to four.
- Avoidance of the mandatory license suspension that follows a stunt driving conviction.
- Reduced financial penalties compared with the original charge.
This resolution significantly reduced the consequences the client would otherwise have faced if convicted of stunt driving.
